Burned to the ground.

Taktsang monastery, the "Tigers Nest" and the most picturesque and famous monastery in Bhutan was burned to the ground Sunday night 19 April 98 - the fire started about 7pm. Cause of fire is unknown. Caretakers and monks have vanished, probably burned.

After the fire at the temple last year Brent Olson, a long time traveler to Bhutan, build a website:  www.taktsang.org to help inform people about the tragic event and the Royal Governments efforts to rebuild the structure.
   Since it's creation, this site has generated more than $12,000 in donations for the rebuilding effort. Work is slated to start next fall and they will track the efforts on the site.
